WHY IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO COMPLETE THE FAFSA
(THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID)?
You can apply for all 3 kinds of federal student aid by completing the FAFSA:
Pell grants, federal student loans, and work study funds.
Please note that this form is free to fill out.
(If you're on the "fafsa.gov" site, you should be good to go.)
WHEN, O WHEN SHOULD I FILL OUT THE FAFSA?
The FAFSA is now available to fill out October 1st for the following academic year.
(You use information from your most recently filed tax return.)
THE NITTY GRITTY--
You can learn about how much federal financial aid you'll be offered when you complete the FAFSA.
If student loan money is offered, you'll later be given the chance to accept all, part, or none of the loan amount.
It takes about 45 minutes to complete the FAFSA for the first time. It's a lot faster the next time.
Students can easily miss out on Pell Grant money they might be eligible for by not completing the FAFSA each year.
