WHY A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION?
A letter of recommendation can help to strengthen your scholarship application.
When written by someone who can speak well of your character and of your abilities,
a letter of recommendation provides added depth to your application materials.
WHOM SHOULD YOU ASK?
Think of adults with whom you've worked; those who've seen you set goals and then accomplish them.
This could be the head of a community organization where you've volunteered;
this could be a current or former supervisor at work;
this could be a church youth leader or head of your congregation;
this could be a teacher, coach, or principal at school.
The best letters of recommendation come from those who know you well,
can speak highly of you, and can write a compelling letter.
If writing isn't someone's strong suit, ask instead if you can use them as a reference.
Aim for 3 letters of recommendation before you leave high school.
HELP THE WRITER HELP YOU!
Give them at least a 2-week window of time, & supply them with
a list of your achievements and experiences that they can then use as talking points in the letter.
Please be sure to thank them for their kindness!
Scan each letter of recommendation to digitize it.
...And then read them when you're having a rough day. : )
